The Downtown Square [1] is a public square and park that appears in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Description
The Downtown Square is modeled after the famous Union Square in San Francisco. Like its real-life counterpart, the square is located at the heart of the city in Downtown San Fierro, San Fierro with Calton Heights to the west and Financial to the east. There is also a monument at the center of the square which is very reminiscent of the Dewey Monument, also located at the Union Square. The monument is a statue of the Ammu-Nation clerk Sam, a character inspired and named after Sam Houser, who appeared in the previous titles.
The surrounding area of the square is one of the largest collections of various stores, upscale boutiques, fast food outlets, and luxury hotels in San Fierro, making Downtown Square a major tourist destination and a vital, cosmopolitan gathering place in Downtown San Fierro. Many tourists and people from nearby districts are seen visiting the square every day as a commonplace. Despite being a public square, police officers from SFPD often patrol this area on foot.
