Declasse (pronounced duh•KLAH•say^[1]) is an American automotive manufacturer appearing in the HD Universe of the Grand Theft Auto series.

Description

Declasse is one of the most prominent in-game car manufacturers, offering a variety of vehicles ranging from sedans to muscle cars and vans.

"Declasse" (déclassé with correct accents) itself means "reduced to or having low or lower status", implying that the automobiles are low-class. The French origin of the word may also be an allusion to the French origins of the real life carmaker Chevrolet, as well as Chevrolet's position as GM's entry-level marque. Alternatively, if pronounced by stressing the "de", then the name may also be a play on words of "dick-less", possibly parodying the stereotype of men that drive big trucks (Chevrolet being a popular choice) to compensate for having a small penis.

Grand Theft Auto VI

In the September 2022 GTA VI leaks, an unnamed compact car and sedan appeared with visible Declasse badging, indicating their manufacturer. These vehicles later officially appeared in the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, alongside other Declasse vehicles such as the Tulip, a donked-out Tulip M-100, and the Granger 3600LX, the latter of which seems to feature a new Declasse badge resembling Chevrolet's iconic bowtie emblem.^[2]

Influence

Declasse is primarily based on Chevrolet, but it also features vehicles seemingly inspired by other American vehicle manufacturers, such as Oldsmobile, AMC, and Dodge.

The outer ring of the Declasse logo may be derived from many manufacturer logos; the "D" inside vaguely resembles the central oval of the Toyota logo. The stylized "D" also resembles a penis, with the "D" proper representing the glans.
