The KnoWay Engineer is a minor character appearing in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the A Safehouse in the Hills update.
Background
He is the head engineer for the KnoWay autonomous driving technology company. In 2025, after the company started being used by the Federal Investigation Bureau as a surveillance office, the engineer began developing an autonomous version of "The Arrow" subway train to expand the company's business and surveillance operation underground.
Plot
After the GTA Online Protagonist helps Avi Schwartzman defame and sabotage KnoWay, they infiltrate a data center in Cypress Flats to recover information on the company's surveillance operation. Among the data, Schwartzman finds several files mapping KnoWay's presence in Los Santos's "The Arrow" subway system.
In order to stop KnoWay from setting up a surveillance network in the subways for the FIB, and to recover security details for the final part of their plan, Schwartzman tells the GTA Online Protagonist to head to the subway, hack a KnoWay train and stop it in the middle of the tracks to bring the train to a halt. After doing so, the GTA Online Protagonist kills the engineer on the train and steals his briefcase containing security details, delivering it to Schwartzman.
